The Old Dovecote at Mary Arden’s House

Jessops were pleased to be nominated by the Shakespeare birthplace trust for the roofing works on the refurbishment of the old dovecote at Mary Ardens house.

Old traditional skills and craftmanship were required for this conservation project.  Split oak laths fixed with copper nails, reclaimed hand-made Warwickshire clay tiles (from our extensive stocks built up over many years,) these tiles were NOT to be nailed but bedded in a traditional lime mortar mix.  Verges to have tiles individually struck and access provided for protected bats
